OUR FACETS OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING
We pride ourselves on building vibrant communities, and believe the strongest communities are those that include a mix of uses and a mix of residents. To that end, it is important that JBG continues to provide housing for a range of income levels, including affordable housing.
JBG has a multifaceted approach to supporting affordable housing in the Washington region. Through our portfolio, our resources and our time, JBG’s efforts to make quality housing more accessible are extensive. These three facets work in tandem to create a solid foundation.
More than 90 percent of JBG’s stabilized residential portfolio qualifies as either workforce housing with rents at 80 percent of the area median income (AMI) or affordable housing with rents at 60 percent of AMI. All of these units are integrated into, or are, market-rate communities. Many of them are mixed-use, helping to establish and grow vibrant neighborhoods.
JBG has contributed nearly $8 million to government-supported affordable housing initiatives across the Washington region. Those funds have been used to support the expansion and accessibility of affordable housing.
Through JBG Cares, our charitable giving program, nonprofits that support affordable housing receive annual support, including the volunteer time of JBG employees. About half of all our corporate giving targets affordable housing programs.
JBG encourages its employees to volunteer with various nonprofits that support safe and affordable housing. Our employees have volunteered thousands of hours with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Back on My Feet, Rebuilding Together Alexandria, Yachad and Montgomery Housing Partnership.
